We often receive questions regarding how often one should service a vehicle. This is pretty important to us because we know exactly what kind of investment you put into buying new and pre-owned Toyotas from us. We even operate our own service center to help address this very important concern.
Let’s answer this question by looking at your vehicle’s various components and how often they need servicing.
How Often Should You Service These Parts?
- Oil & Filter – This depends somewhat on your vehicle (old versus new particularly), but the general range for oil changes is between every 3,000 to 7,000 miles.
- Air Filter – Replace your air filter about every 15,000 miles.
- Timing Belt – Replace the timing belt about every five years.
- Brakes – Get the brake fluid flushed every other year and inspect them every 5,000 to 7,000 miles.
- Fuel System – It really helps to add an additive/cleaner to your fuel system at least every 7,000 miles.
- Transmission – Automatic transmissions can go as long as 60,000 miles before needing a flush. Do it every 20,000 miles for manuals.
- Radiator – Visually inspect this for leaks (as often as possible) and flush it approximately every 50,000 to 60,000 miles.
- Steering – It’s good to do a steering system flush about every 30,000 miles.
- Lights – You don’t have a set replacement schedule, but keep an eye on them since they burnout after a while.
- Tires – Check these every 6,000 miles, but especially before winter begins (cold weather means you lose traction).
Don’t forget that you also want to get a FULL service inspection roughly once a year or about every 12,000 miles. Doing all this will greatly extend the life of your vehicle and make it much less likely to break down at inopportune times.
