Toyota Safety Sense: Designed for Safety

Toyota continues to be on the cutting edge of safety technology with Toyota Safety Sense™ now available on most new Toyota vehicles. Safety Sense™ is a package of active safety features which work seamlessly behind the scene to help protect all the passengers in new Toyotas. Let’s review these amazing features:

Pre-Collision System — This system detects that a vehicle ahead of you has stopped and will alert you if it senses a possible collision. If there isn’t time for you to react, it may even apply the brakes to avoid the collision with the stopped vehicle.

Lane Departure Alert — There is a camera embedded in the dashboard that looks at the lane ahead. If it senses you moving out of your current lane it will alert you to avoid a possible collision with a vehicle in another lane.

Automatic High Beams — A camera senses either headlights approaching you or taillights ahead of you at night, and will turn the high beam headlights off to avoid blinding other drivers. They will turn on again automatically when no other traffic is sensed.

Dynamic Radar Cruise Control — This amazing technology is cruise control with a brain. There is a radar emitter located behind the front grille plus a camera on the windshield. The combination scans the traffic ahead and will automatically adjust your speed to maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead of you. When the traffic clears, it will return to your pre-set speed automatically. Some Toyota vehicles are equipped with Full-Speed Dynamic Cruise Control, which can bring the vehicle to a full stop without deactivating the cruise control.

Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection — This system uses both radar and a camera to help reduce the likelihood of striking a pedestrian ahead of you. If the system senses a possible collision it will first issue audio and visual alerts. If the system senses a collision is imminent it will either help you brake faster using Brake Assist, or apply the brakes automatically to minimize the possible collision.
