Promising Toyota reliability, the French-built 2016 Toyota Yaris is Toyota’s least expensive model. Yaris, now in its fourth year, is nicely proportioned from the side and is available in three and five-door versions.

On the inside, this car has a practical and intuitive layout with many storage areas. The dash has horizontal shelving and the controls are easy to play around with. The front seats are comfortably supportive and there is a lot of headroom. Yaris’s 15.3 cubic feet of cargo volume is respectable.

The Yaris has a very good electric power steering, and the sporty, Yaris SE model has a stiff suspension with thick anti-sway bars providing flatter cornering without much impact on ride comfort. The brake pedal in the Yaris is firm and less mushy than in some competitors. It has nine airbags, including a driver knee bag, as standard and a rearview camera is available.

The top of the line SE model is exceptional, with 16-inch alloy wheels, rear disc brakes, projector-beam headlights, LED daytime running lamps, a black front grille, a rear spoiler, seats with sport fabric, a sport instrument cluster, leather trim for the steering wheel and shift lever. The SE model gets a more aggressive look, from wheels to bumpers, that looks almost influenced by rally racers, complete with fog lamps and a rear diffuser panel. It also gets its own gauge cluster with more operating information.

The 2016 Toyota Yaris has EPA ratings of mpg 30 for city, 37 for highway and 33 combined for the 5-speed manual version; the mpg of 30/36/32 for models fitted with the 4-speed automatic transmission.
