High mileage automobiles may be more common with today’s reliability, but Toyotas have been known to be high-mileage vehicles for many years now. Some believe a Toyota isn’t getting broken in until about 100,000 miles, but the proof is in five Toyotas we have selected as a showcase for longevity.
2003 Toyota Tundra with 424K miles
Wayne owns this long-lived Tundra, and it hasn’t been babied along the way. He indicates the Tundra has towed trailers and campers, hauled materials, and taken spray equipment to the job. There were no reported maintenance issues with this tough Tundra, just the expected wear, and tear and a few dents.
2001 Toyota Avalon with 500K miles
Michael is the owner of this rugged Avalon located in North Carolina. Along with a routine commute of 120 miles round-trip per day, he has also taken the Avalon to New York an estimated 100 times, as well as trips to the Gulf Coast and Florida. The Avalon still has the original engine and transmission. His next goal is to hit 700K with the Avalon; we think his original investment in a Toyota Avalon has paid off and then some.
1971 Toyota Corolla with 610K miles
Vic bought this antique Corolla for a bit over $2000 in 1971. He has over 600,000 miles on it, and he claims it will still handle 70 mph on the highway. He has replaced the rear axle and added a crate engine, but the rest is original. He says warming up the car before driving it summer or winter, don’t run high or low RPMs, and changing the oil religiously every 3K miles was the key to keeping this Corolla on the road.
Toyota Prius with 621K miles
Manfred owns this second-generation Prius in Austria, and what makes this case intriguing is the fact it has been operated as a taxi for most of its life. It has the original battery and is still being used as a roadside assistance vehicle which is driven nearly every day. Although the model year of this Prius was not disclosed in our reference source, second-generation Prius’ were built from 2003-2009.
2007 Toyota Tundra with over One Million miles
Victor’s 2007 Tundra has been driven all over the country from its home in New Orleans, including Wyoming and North Dakota. He has had the Tundra serviced 117 times, and it is still using the original engine and transmission. After reaching the 1,000,000 mark, Toyota traded him a 2016 Tundra for his old one. Now that’s a good trade!
When looking at high-mileage Toyotas, one thing in common is owners who are careful about maintenance. Although this can extend the life of any vehicle, we think you will agree that Toyotas have a special place in their owners’ hearts for keeping them on the road for many years.
