The 2020 Camry and Avalon are More Than Just Appearance!

Toyota has had continuing success with the Camry and Avalon lines, but many feel they are decent sedans without a lot of snap to them. That will change with the introduction of the 2020 Camry and Avalon TRD. Toyota has really upped the looks and the performance with these models, so let’s see how these TRDs are no longer your parents’ sedan.

Camry TRD

The Camry TRD now has a big rear wing, a new body kit with an aggressive front splitter, side skirts, and rear diffuser all added for stability at higher speeds. The front grille is unique from the rest of the Camry line, and the vehicle appearance is completed with pinstripes, badges, and brake calipers all in red. The Camry TRD also gets 19-inch matte black wheels and a two-tone paint scheme offered in red, white, or silver.

Performance for the Camry TRD comes from Toyota’s 3.5 V-6 engine developing 301 horsepower and paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. Toyota has added a throaty TRD dual exhaust from the catalytic converter back. The suspension has been stiffened and lowered 0.6 inches, with stiffer swaybars making the Camry 44 percent stiffer at the front and 67 stiffer at the rear. Rounding out the suspension are special TRD shocks and 12.9-inch disc brakes on the front wheels.

The interior of the Camry TRD has synthetic leather and fabric insert sport seats, red accents throughout the interior, red embroidery on the headrests, red stitching on the steering wheel, red seat belts, and TRD embossed logo on the shift knob.

Avalon TRD

The Avalon TRD uses similar treatments as the Camry TRD including the 19-inch matte black wheels, red accents, and lots of TRD badging. The infotainment screens on both models start up with a TRD badge to remind everyone what you are driving. The suspension has been adjusted like the Camry with thicker bracing underneath, larger brakes, and tuning of the suspension for better driving performance. The louder TRD exhaust is used. Both the Camry and Avalon TRDs have a lot of safety systems as standard features including emergency auto braking.
