The 2017 Toyota Tacoma continues to offer medium-duty truck buyers and off-roaders a great truck for their next adventure. It also offers buyers a long list of model trims depending on the engine size, cab length, and model designations to provide a wide range of features.

The Tacoma offers two engine choices; a 159 horsepower 2.7 liter inline-4 cylinder for those seeking economy over towing capacity, and a more powerful 3.5 liter V-6 developing 278 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque. The V-6 uses Atkinson-cycle technology with variable valve timing and improved fuel injection to optimize fuel efficiency. You have a choice of rear-wheel or four-wheel drive. Top it off with a choice of Access or Double cab configurations, and you end up with dozens of model trim choices.

Along with major design changes in the Tacoma line in 2016, Toyota is offering a new design in the TRD Pro series for 2017. The TRD (Toyota Racing Division) Pro is popular for its power and off-road capability. New slanting headlights, a redesigned grill, and skid plates not offered on the standard Tacoma set the TRD Pro apart from the herd. For 2017 Toyota has also added special 16-inch black wheels with Kevlar-reinforced tires, unique badging, LED daytime running lights, a retuned suspension, standard part-time four-wheel drive, an electronically controlled transfer case, and automatic limited-slip differential. There is a crawl control feature on the six-speed automatic transmission to permit the driver to use one of five low-speed settings, then the Tacoma uses the brakes and throttle to maintain a low speed while the driver concentrates on the terrain ahead. Other features include active traction control, hill start assist, and multi-terrain select. A Class-IV towing receiver is standard along with a transmission cooler and multi-pin electrical connector. Towing capacity is up to 6,800 pounds.

Interior and convenience features on the 2017 Tacoma line include the Entune™ infotainment system, Bluetooth®, Siri Hands Free, and a long list of available apps. Leather seating trim is available. A rear-view camera and Toyota Star Safety System® are standard features on all trims. Available features include rear parking assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert (all standard on the TRD Pro).
