Powertrains are important to vehicles – they help them move. How? They transform the power of the engine into motion for the vehicle, from a state of inertia; they include everything that helps a vehicle move, from the engine to the joints to the differentials to the axle shafts to the driveshaft to the transmission.
When it comes to vehicles, they come with different types of transmission systems. These transmission systems are manual transmission (popularly known as “manual”), automatic transmission (popularly known as “automatic”) powered by the transmission gear selector known as prindle, the engineering code word for Park, Reverse, Neutral, Drive and Low, and continuously variable transmission (popularly known as “CVT”).
Transmission systems are expensive as they come especially automatic transmission systems which is why it is recommended to follow these tips to avoid transmission repairs which will eventually take lots of money from your bank account:
- Check and gauge the level of your transmission fluid with the transmission fluid dipstick; your car’s manual will tell you how to go about this.
- Top up transmission fluid on a frequent basis. It is advisable to schedule this in order to prevent shortage which will eventually leads to knocking of your engine (remember: the transmission in your vehicle is an important component of the powertrain). 60,000 – 100,000 miles and 30,000 – 60,000 miles are recommended mileage ranges for a new top-up for automatic and manual transmission systems respectively.
- Service your transmission by taking your car to professionals. Fluid change matters but it has to be done with servicing to ensure everything is all good and set to go at any time.
